SATHYA SAI SCHOOLS OF BRAZIL
Developing Character & Serving Society

Wherever they operate, Sathya Sai Schools provide a model for the education of underprivileged children by shaping their characters, transforming their family lives, and serving societies.

The first Sathya Sai School in Latin America – the third outside India – was established in 1993 in Rio de Janeiro to serve children from needy communities near the Sathya Sai Center of Vila Isabel.

As the area became crime-ridden, in 2007, with Bhagawan’s Grace, the school relocated to new and safer premises some distance away. Today, there are 44 students in the preschool and the first and second years of elementary school at the Sathya Sai School of Vila Isabel.

Recently, the mother of one of the school’s graduates visited the school. Her son, a violinist, had been chosen to represent Brazil at a music festival in New York City, USA. She paid tribute to the principles of Sathya Sai Education: “It is not easy to educate a child living in a deprived and violent community to become a man of character.”

In 2000, the Sathya Sai School of Goias was inaugurated to provide early childhood education. Today, it has 41 students, ages 4 and 5.

In 2019 and 2020, the school was amongst the top three schools to receive an award from the Agrinho Social Responsibility Program for its vegetable garden, ecology classes, and encouraging respect for Nature. In 2020, the school’s winning contribution was a video titled Guardians of the Environment, depicting the importance of human values in man’s relationship with Nature.

In 2002, the Sathya Sai School of Ribeirao Preto opened its doors. Currently, it has 158 students from its early childhood education program to the fifth year of elementary school. Since 2019, the school has received several awards from the Brazilian Astronomy Olympiad, a project for all schools. The school has received seven gold, ten silver, and twenty-one bronze medals.

The Sathya Sai Schools of Brazil, whenever possible, assist students’ families by providing food baskets, hygiene kits, psychological care, general health support, and legal advice as needed. In addition, human values workshops are organized for parents and guardians.
