Mega Medical Camp in Madagascar

Between April 21-25, 2025, on the recommendations of the nation’s Ministry of Health, two Catholic schools in interior locations in Antananarivo, Madagascar, hosted 185 volunteers of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organization for a desperately needed Medical Camp. These tireless emissaries of the Lord served 6,633 underprivileged patients in loving remembrance of their Guru and God, Sri Sathya Sai Baba, on the occasion of Aradhana Mahotsavam.

Rooted in the principles of Sai Ideal Healthcare–free, universal, compassionate, and state-of-the-art healthcare – the camp provided high-quality medical services across 14 medical specialties to underserved communities.

The team consisted of 34 healthcare professionals and 19 volunteers from Australia, Botswana, the U.A.E., the U.S.A., and elsewhere, supported by a local team of 48 healthcare professionals from Madagascar and Mauritius. A kitchen seva team delivered generous proportions of nourishment for the whole group.

After the camp was set up on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, 400 children were served food at the Sathya Sai Center in Antananarivo, followed by bhajans and prasadam.

At 5:45 am each morning, vehicles carrying the medical team set off for the schools to be greeted by lines of patients waiting since 3 am. The team offered 20,000 individual consultations across many medical disciplines. For some, including young children, this was the first time they had ever seen a doctor.

An extensive array of medical services was provided, including malaria screening, echocardiograms, laboratory services, cancer screenings, minor surgical procedures and joint injections, dental extractions, physiotherapy, and others. Medicines, prescription eyeglasses, hygiene kits, etc., were distributed as needed.

The Camp transformed lives in many ways. A 12-year-old boy came for his first eye test ever. He had had trouble seeing the school board and experienced itchy eyes due to astigmatism and mild allergies. It was a sight to behold his joy when he walked away from the camp, being able to read a board easily.

The Camp was a boost for the permanent Sai Clinic in Antananarivo, which seeks to extend operations to five days a week with a newly appointed pediatrician.
